Hornsby Interclub Report 30/4/17

Time flies there is no doubt ! It has been over 6 months since the last minikhana competition and thanks to the intervention of some undesirable weather the season is off to a late start but thankfully the 2017 competition is under way.  Since then we  have watched our kids get a little older, taller and stronger which has seen some movement in the classes of competition and emptied our savings accounts again with the purchase of new machinery and equipment. The turnout of 180 riders was a credit to the health of minikhana and Sutherland was represented well. The team assembled with bright eyes, the sun was shining and it was off to play.

All the riders did a great job and there were several podiums which was fantastic. In  C 50 Grade Marley Stevens opened his account with a well-deserved 3rd place with some excellent riding mixed with some bad luck. Marley did not get called up for an event and was missed. This is the only time we strongly encourage our riders to pick up the purple flag as sometimes mistakes are made in the process .The improvement Seth Gray has shown of late was again on for show as he took out the 50 B grade in fine style backed up by a strong showing by Cooper Clark taking out 2nd place and will see both riders off to A grade at the next event. Luca Stevens decision to contest the 50 cc A grade for 2017 was an easy decision for him to make and he was in classic form again winning the event and only  1 of 3 riders completing looping on the day. Jack Burton again justified his place as a A grade rider with a fantastic 3rd place .Jack and Luca had a great battle in mini cross and showed great sportsmanship and respect afterwards.

The Miniwheels this year is as popular as ever and all our riders had to fight hard in all their events. Chris was rewarded with a 3rd place and as always had a radiant smile on display on the podium. The massive numbers in all the C grade classes meant it was always going to be difficult but the hard work by our riders in the off season paid off and we had some great results. The 65 C grade was tough and Maxi “D” proved his worth in all the events and achieved a 3rd place and will be a strong contender this year. The 65 cc B grade was another tight contest with Haydo smashing through the contest and taking out the grade in spectacular style. Haydo will be the first Sutherland rider in many years to compete in 65 cc A grade. Jesse Barnes first contest in 85cc C grade was tough with over 20 riders. He rose to the occasion and finished a credible 3rd which is a great start to the year and the championship.

Sutherland finished equal 3rd for the day and everyone involved had a great day. All our riders showed great skill and we welcome our new nippers Marko and Beau .Thanks to Hornsby for running a great event. In two weeks we will assemble for the postponed Blacktown regional and hopefully we can continue our journey for 2017 in a safe, fun and rewarding  way. We all want our kids to do well and achieve their goals ,the best we can do is support them and enjoy the ride wherever it takes us safe in the knowledge that it is about the  kids, their time and their story………….to be continued

We came, we rode, we had fun..!  Go Sutho.
